The Area

The Northern Neck of Virginia is a popular rural retirement and recreation area between the Lower Potomac and Lower Rappahannock a hour or two drive from Richmond, Norfork, Williamsburg, Fredericksburg, and Washington DC.

The property is located in Northumberland County and Heathsville (10 minutes away) is the county seat with Court House, Sheriff’s Office, Library, NPR radio, YMCA, and K-12 schools. Callao and Lottsburg (5 minutes away) have restaurants, fire department, hardware and lumber stores, antique and consignment stores, grocery, auto service, drug stores, banks, Westmoreland Player’s Theatre (named best community theatre in Virginia), and general merchandise. Warsaw, Kilmarnock, and Tappahannock (20-45 minutes away) have Wal-Mart Super Stores, art galleries, specialty shops, restaurants, community college, hospitals, and regional airport.

Local attractions are golf courses, farmer’s markets, Wakefield (Washinton’s birthplace National Monument), Stratford Hall (Lee’s boyhood home), Westmoreland State Park, Hughlett Point Wildlife Area, Belle Island State Park, vineyards and wineries, ferries and river cruises, charter fishing, local interest museums, and several nature preserves with hiking trails. Lodge Creek is a tributary to the Yeocomico River. The Lower Potomac is 6 miles wide at the mouth of the Yeocomico River and from there it is a short run to the Chesapeake Bay.
